Breaking a sweat for sport relief | |
With more than 30 of my fellow Parliamentarians, including Minister for Sport Gerry Sutcliffe, swapped our suits for shorts, trainers and Sport Relief Socks to test our sporting prowess in St James's Park. We were joined by former England Rugby player Kyran Bracken who helped spur us on to the finishing line. Normally, I'm running between meetings and debates in Westminster so it was a nice change to run a mile for a great cause like Sport Relief. I hope that people in Birmingham will give it a go on Sunday and support the work that Sport Relief does. Gerry Sutcliffe, Minister for Sport, said: "It's been a great turn out today and nice to see so many rosy-faced MPs and Peers coming together for Sport Relief! It just goes to show that everyone can join in the fun and rise to the challenge by getting sponsored to do a Mile for Sport Relief." Kyran Bracken said: "MPs are usually found running for election so it was nice to see them running for a different reason! It's been brilliant to see our politicians sweating it out for Sport Relief, so I'd encourage everyone to follow their lead and sign up to do their own Mile now at sportrelief.com." The Sport Relief Weekend is taking place from Friday 19th March to Sunday 21st March and it'll be three whole days of energy, entertainment and events for everyone to enjoy. All the money raised will be spent by Comic Relief to help vulnerable people here in the UK and across the world's poorest countries. For more information or to sign up for the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile go to www.sportrelief.com.
