Lapal Canal Trust

Lapal Canal TrustFIGHTING FOR THE FUTURE OF BIRMINGHAM’S CANALS

I had the pleasure of meeting with the Lapal Canal Trust (LCT) to discuss their efforts in the conservation and restoration of a section of the Dudley No.2 canal.

The Trust, which was founded in 1900, is spearheading the initiative to restore the area of the No.2 canal running from Hawne Basin in Halesowen to Selly Oak. A restored canal stretch will result in jobs for construction workers, direct and indirect investment from tourists and business owners and improve the health of the area by operating as a place for exercise and calm.

The Directors of the Trust; Peter, David and Helen took time to inform me on their progress on identifying and acquiring funds for a restoration project, in the hope that they can commission contractors for their ‘grand vision’.

The LCT is a perfect example of groups and individuals within civil society coming together in the pursuit of a goal. I wish the LCT all the success in the future.
