Local police listening panel

On Thursday 2nd September I invited members of my constituency to a listening panel on the future of local policing. All sorts of people from across the constituency attended and we discussed many different issues, such as elected police commissioners and concerns people had with the cuts the police could be facing.

Having met with police commissioners earlier in the day I was particularly interested when people aired concerns that elected police commissioners could politicise the police and take away the focus of crime fighting.  There were also lots of suggestions about what should and shouldn’t be cut from the policing budget; it has certainly given me food for thought. I’m hoping to hold another meeting soon, this time with police commissioners present so if you’d like to come along to this meeting or any future ones please don’t hesitate to get in contact.
